PORT ELIZABETH - VOTE COUNTING DELAYED AS PRESIDING OFFICERS THREATENED TO DUMP BALLOTS

Vote counting was delayed in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality.

Presiding officers threatened to dump ballots at the election centre following complaints of staff shortages to capture results.

Municipal Electoral Officer Nimrod Mqulwana said they're back on track after compensation measures were implemented.

Mqulwana said, "we have decided to do now is to break the verification process into two: one in a room and the other will take place in another room.

"I have already allocated officials to attend to the verification process in the second stream.''
