PORT ELIZABETH - MOTHERWELL WATER OUTAGE CAUSED BY VANDALISM & THEFT

Vandals have damaged a water supply pipeline to Motherwell in Port Elizabeth leading to a water outage affecting thousands of people.

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality said that it had to shut down the 800 mm water supply pipeline to a large part of Motherwell, as a result of suspected vandalism and theft along the pipeline.

“A large volume of water has been lost which has caused flooding of certain areas,” said spokesperson, Mthubanzi Mniki.

He said areas which are currently affected include Units 3, 5, 7, 8, 9 and parts of Unit 1 in Motherwell.

“Water tankers are being arranged and will be deployed as required,” Mniki said.
