PORT ELIZABETH - 61 YEAR OLD FISHERMAN EVACUATED OFF TRAWLER AFTER SUFFERING SUSPECTED STROKE



At 20h01, Saturday, 13th April, NSRI Port Elizabeth duty crew were activated following reports of a 61 year old Cape Town fisherman suffering a suspected Stroke (CVA – Cerebrovascular Accident) on a fishing trawler making its way towards Port Elizabeth from fishing grounds.

The sea rescue craft JLK Rescuer was launched, accompanied by an EC Government Health EMS rescue paramedic, and rendezvoused with the fishing vessel where the EMS rescue paramedic and an NSRI rescue swimmer were transferred on board.

The patient was found to be in a critical condition and medical treatment commenced on board. The fishing vessel was escorted into port by our sea rescue craft and the patient has been transported to hospital by EMS ambulance in the care of EMS paramedics.
