During the 2018 SA Championships, TEN amazing young dancers from McWilliams Academy of Dance qualified to represent their country at the World Irish Dancing Championships to be held in the USA during April 2019.
Six of them competed at the All Irelands Irish Dancing Championships held at Killarney, Ireland from the 17th to the 23rd of February 2019. They are:-
·
Tammy Forbes (17)
Courtney Pearce (26)
·Josie Opperman (11)
·Lauren Thompson (14)
·Jemima Opperman (14)
·Jenna Hayes (17)
For many of them, this was the first time that they represented South Africa in an official capacity and it was the result of many months of hard work and perseverance! Another MAD dancer Sarah Sharp (15) also took part in this her second international competition.
Says M.A.D teacher and owner Jenny McWilliams: “All Irelands is the second most important major championship in the world and it is truly a wonderful opportunity for dancers from a developing country such as SA, to share the stage with the best dancers in the world! The sport can only go from strength to strength when we are given these amazing platforms from which to grow!”
The MADS are exceptionally proud of each and every one of them for representing their country with distinction and grace!
The next competition that the MADS are preparing for, is the World Championships being held in North Carolina next month and we wish the 5 dancers taking part, the very best of luck!
