UITENHAGE - OFF DUTY CONSTABLE DIES IN COLLISION WITH TRUCK AT CALEDON & GIBBON STREET INTERSECTION

The SAPS Management in the Eastern Cape expressed their deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of an off duty Constable who tragically died in a motor vehicle accident at the corner of Caledon and Gibbon streets in Uitenhage on Thursday, 13 April 2017 at about 19:30. Constable Francois Dolf (30) was stationed at Kamesh Detective Unit, but was performing duties at the Nelson Mandela Anti-Hijacking Task Team in Port Elizabeth.
It is believed that Constable Dolf was travelling in a green VW Golf in Caledon Street, and a white Nissan truck was travelling in Gibbon Street and the two vehicles collided at the intersection.
Police are questioning witnesses in order to shed some light on what has transpired. The driver of the truck was not injured during the incident.
"We also make a call on motorists to be cautious on the roads especially during this time of the year", concluded Lt Gen Liziwe Ntshinga, Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner.
