PORT ELIZABETH - WATER SHUTDOWN NOTICE TO SUMMERSTRAND, HUMEWOOD, WALMER, HUMERAIL & SOUTH END

Please take not of the following water shutdown notice as posted on the Nelson Mandela Bay website:

We were, unfortunately unable to complete the repair on the water pipe on Wednesday, 5th April 2017. This was due to the worse condition that the pipe was in than we initially thought, with holes underneath and near to the bedrock which is difficult to weld.

It is also difficult to prepare for the repair as we can’t see the pipe without having the water off as the trench fills up with water too fast to enable us to see anything.

We are, however, busy manufacturing a large special joint that we will bolt around the affected area and plan to shut the water on Tuesday evening at 22:00 pm.

Please note, Walmer, the highest area will start going dry at about 7:00am. The lower lying areas might take a bit longer as the back water drains into the lower areas like Summerstrand.

We are not going to scour (empty) the pipe in order to save water.

Time period the water will be off: Wednesday 12 April 7:00am – 14:00pm

The affected areas will be: Walmer from 1st Avenue to 7th Avenue, South End, Humerail, Humewood, Summerstrand from Driftsands Drive to 2nd Avenue, Forest Hill.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and ask the public and businesses to bear with us as we repair this important pipeline.
