PORT ELIZABETH - NIGERIAN PASTOR, TIM OMOTOSO, LEGAL TEAM ACCUSES POLICE OF MISCONDUCT AFTER PE AIRPORT ARREST

The legal team of Nigerian pastor Tim Omotoso has accused South African police of luring him to Port Elizabeth on the pretext of a private discussion about rape and human trafficking cases pending against him.

Several women in the Eastern Cape have accused Omotoso of sexual assault. He was arrested on arrival at Port Elizabeth airport and remanded in custody until a bail application early next month.

His legal team has told the BBC that the police's tactical response team stormed the airport toilets while Omotoso was in a cubicle and dragged him out.

They say there was no arrest warrant and he wasn't read his rights. Police have denied the accusations.
