A Walmer Township mother is reeling in shock after her two-month-old baby was snatched at the Gqeberha Clinic, in Walmer Township, earlier today.
Phezisa Makuzeni, 22, said she left the little girl with an unknown woman who offered to carry the baby for a few minutes while she consulted with the doctor.
“She asked to hold the baby while I go see the doctor. She then came to ask me if the baby had any nappies while I was consulting with the doctor, as the baby needed a nappy change.
“After I told her that I did not have any nappies she offered to go buy them and I asked her to wait, and when I came out of the doctor’s room the woman was nowhere to be seen.”
Walmer Township taxi driver Sithembiso Rhaga , 29, said he saw the woman walking casually before picking her up and dropping her off at the Terminus taxi rank in town.
The woman who took the baby was wearing a jean skirt and a black knitwear top.
A case is being opened at Fountain satellite police station in Walmer.
