PORT ELIZABETH - GANG MEMBER ARRESTED AT DOLFYN FLATS IN ALGOA PARK FOR 2016 MURDER & HIJACKING

A 34-year-old gang affiliate was arrested last night at his residence for an alleged murder and hijacking which took place in January 2016.

It is alleged that on 26/01/2016 a 33-year-old man was seated in his vehicle with his friends in Holland Park, Port Elizabeth when a vehicle stopped next to them. They were approached by two suspects who pointed a firearm at them while the driver of that vehicle drove off. The suspects demanded keys to their Tata Indie vehicle. The deceased, Lopez Oppang resisted and a struggle ensued between him and one of the suspect’s. The other suspect got into the vehicle and drove off but stopped a few metres away, got out of the vehicle and shot Oppang in his head. The two suspects then ran off on foot.

On 11 April 2017, members from the Visible Gang Intervention Team and Walmer Crime Prevention acted on information received about the whereabouts of one of the suspect’s. The suspect was arrested at his flat in Dolfyn Flats in Algoa Park.  He is detained on a charge of murder and hijacking and will appear in court tomorrow, 13 April 2017.

The Cluster Commander, Maj Gen Funeka Siganga commended the members on their speedy reaction to the information received. ‘When there is teamwork and collaboration between the different units, only positive results can be achieved,’ added Maj Gen Siganga.
