Three robbers hijacked a Chevrolet Spark on Saturday night in an attempt to escape an angry mob after a house robbery in Inyala Street, Gelvandale.
The three men had entered the house and held the owner and two children at gunpoint, police spokeswoman Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg said yesterday.
“The men stole the television set and left it on the pavement when they went back into the house, presumably to get more items,” she said.
“The woman screamed, which alerted her neighbours.”
Janse van Rensburg said the robbers jumped over a wall and then forced the driver of the Chevrolet Spark out of the car before speeding off.
Within 20 minutes, the car was found abandoned nearby.
