King William’s Town police were on patrol when they spotted and arrested a 36 year old suspect for business robbery and possession of copper wire valued at R18, 5 Million last night. The suspect and his accomplices allegedly robbed the King William's Town Eskom depot at gunpoint at about 23:00 last night. The remaining four suspects fled the scene and they are still at large. More arrests are imminent.
No injuries were reported during the said incident. The suspect is due to appear before the King William’s Town Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, 21 April 2017 on charges of business robbery and possession of copper wire.
The Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Liziwe Ntshinga commended the members for the major breakthrough and speedy response. “Our enhanced police visibility in line with the back to basics principles of policing assisted us in arrest of the perpetrators. Commanders must ensure that we keep members on duty and on patrol in areas where crime is rampant. Let us continue to eliminate any space for such incidents”, added Lieutenant General Ntshinga.
