Exams will continue at Rhodes University on Monday after they got off to an incident-free start last week.
The university brought in security to ensure there are no disruptions while students write their papers on Friday.
Students have also been given the option to defer their exams to January.
Teaching is expected to resume at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan, Free State and North West universities.
Meanwhile, the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority is investigating its members for allegedly abusing their powers at university campuses.
The authority is looking into claims that private security guards had used their shields, batons and pepper spray indiscriminately on protesting students.
