PLETTENBERG BAY - DA GETS COURT RULING IN FAVOUR OF VOTE RECOUNT IN BITOU MUNICIPALITY

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC)'s vote tallying process in the Bitou Municipality has been brought into question following an Electoral Court ruling.

The court today ruled in favour of vote recount in ward 5 after the Democratic Alliance (DA) filed an application with the court last month.

The party claimed there were issues with the calculation and recording of votes.

In August, the party flagged alleged discrepancies with the recording of votes especially in St Monica's ward.

The party's constituency head for Bitou, Donald Grant, says it will evaluate the party's position in the coastal town after the recount.

“If necessary in the light of the recount to amend the results of the elections for ward 5.”

While the DA received the majority of votes during 3 August elections, it was not enough to secure the party an outright majority.

The municipality is led by an African National Congress active united front coalition.
