Today around 07:30, police in Uitenhage foiled drug trafficking and seized 15 200 mandrax tablets and crystal methamphetamine (known as tik) worth R912 000-00, arrested three men and confiscated a white Nissan bakkie.
Police in Uitenhage received information from the Crime Intelligence Unit of a white Nissan bakkie that was transporting a large number of mandrax tablets stashed inside the vehicle. Members spotted the vehicle in Graaff Reinet Road in Uitenhage and pulled it off the road. Police requested to search the vehicle with the assistance of K9 member, a patrol explosives dog, Xiro. Members recovered three large bags full of mandrax tablets that were found fastened with wire to the petrol tank underneath the body of the vehicle.
The vehicle was impounded and transported to the police garage, where the vehicle was thoroughly searched for more drugs. A total of 15 200 mandrax tablets were counted and a small portion of crystal methamphetamine (tik) was also found in the vehicle with an estimated value of R912 000-00.
The three men, aged between 35 and 65 years, were arrested and will appear in the Uitenhage Magistrate Court tomorrow.
