Two men in their 50's have been killed after their bakkie was struck by a passenger train at a level crossing in Melbrooks Road, Uitenhage.
The accident happened at about 06h35 on Saturday morning.
Sergeant Majola Nkohli of the Uitenhage police named the deceased as 57 year-old Timothy Latola and 52 year-old Mgaleli Zazini.
They were travelling from Cuyler Manor in the direction of Volkswagen South Africa when the accident happened. Nkohli said that according to the train driver - the boom at the train crossing was down but the bakkie drove around it and tried to cross ahead of the train.
A culpable homicide docket has been opened.
