PORT ELIZABETH - PANAYIOTOU'S THIRD BAIL APPLICATION HAS BEEN POSTPONED TO JUNE 1

The bail application for murder accused Port Elizabeth businessman Christopher Panayiotou has been postponed until June 1. He is applying for bail for the second time.

Panayiotou is accused of orchestrating the murder of his wife Jayde in April last year. An emotional letter written by Jayde months before her death was read out in court by the States prosecutor Marius Stander.

In it Jayde expressed her longing for her husband's affection and love. She detailed how her marriage life had been a misery that she could never share with anyone.

The defence came back guns blazing, in their second attempt to get bail for Panayiotou, they challenged investigating officer Kanna Swanepoel’s version of events, where he stated that Panayiotou's father was present during his arrest.

Donavan Vosloo who admitted to wiping data from the phones of Christopher and his mistress Chanelle Coults, has now turned state witness. The defence also accused the state of putting pressure on Vosloo to turn against his friend, Panayotou.

In opposing bail, the state’s prosecutor argued that the defence did not present any new information that warrants bail. Panayiotou is expected to re-appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate court next week Wednesday.
