A 21-year-old man was positively linked to the murder of Naeem Desai after he was arrested in connection with another case at the weekend.
According to police, they had been looking for the suspect in connection with an alleged attempted murder committed in November last year in Ibex Street, Gelvandale.
The man was arrested by members of the vehicle gang intervention team in Old Stanford Road, Gelvandale, on Saturday 14 May in connection with this case. While detained on this charge, investigators from the gang task team positively linked him to the murder of Naeem Desai, who was shot while delivering bread at a local spaza shop in Helenvale on Thursday(12/05/2016).
Desai, a prominent Port Elizabeth businessman, was shot twice in the upper body while sitting in the driver’s seat of a Jadeed’s Bread delivery van.
The suspect will appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s court on Wednesday, May 18 on charges of murder.
