Rhodes University has suspended all academic activity at the institution until further notice.Rhodes has been brought to standstill by the ongoing anti-rape protests.
University authorities have obtained an interdict barring students from intimidating, assaulting or threatening anyone on campus.
Students took to the streets, demanding alleged rapists on campus be suspended pending investigations.
The Eastern Cape university has set up a team to investigate the rape and sexual assault allegations.
The university said it cannot expel students accused of rape until disciplinary processes have been followed.
Vice Chancellor Sizwe Mabizela says he needs concrete evidence before taking action.
He has called for discussions with protesting students to address the various concerns raised.
