KENTON-ON-SEA - 2 SUSPECTS ARRESTED WITH STOLEN GOODS VALUED AT R30 000

Swift response and excellent communication between Port Alfred K9 and Hi-Tech Security in the Kenton-on-Sea area this past weekend resulted in the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of valuables with an estimated value of R30 000.

The two suspects – Thulani Mbangula, 28, and Siyabulela Sonjeke, 27, appeared in the Alexandria Magistrate’s Court earlier today and their case was postponed until Monday, December 21. They are in custody.

The K9 team of Constable Mkhululi Lamani and his police dog Ounooi had attended to a housebreaking complaint in Lyon Street, Kenton-on-Sea in the early hours of Saturday morning. A handbag had allegedly been stolen.

While working there, a call came in from Hi-Tech Security about a housebreaking in progress in nearby Butt Street.

Constable Lamani and Ounooi rushed to the scene and on arrival learnt that several items, including a laptop and a flat-screen TV, had been stolen. Further communication from Hi-Tech revealed that the suspects had fled across the R72 into the bush towards Endlovini.

After a search, Ounooi managed to track the two suspects in the bushes and they were both arrested. One was armed with a screwdriver.

Constable Lamani recovered some of the stolen property – a digital camera, a cellphone, a laptop and a DVD player – all with an estimated value of R30 000.

Port Alfred K9 unit commander, Lt Lily Erasmus praised her team and Hi-Tech for their success.

“The great team work of Constable Lamani and Hi-Tech Security led to the arrest of the two suspects. They are commended for their dedication,” she said.
