BEAUFORT WEST - MISSING LION ON THE MOVE

The 3-year old lion, believed to have escaped on June 5 through a hole under the perimeter fence at Karoo National Park has been spotted by rangers, SANParks said on Saturday.
The lion was spotted on Friday, SA National Parks (SANParks) spokersperson Fayroush Ludick told News24.

"It was spotted on a road that joins Leeu Gamka and Fraserburg," she said.
"It was close to a riverbed and unfortunately, it darted in and out of the bushes," said Ludick, adding that the rangers were not immediately able to tranqualise it.
The Karoo is a hilly region of grassy scrubland and winding dry river valleys, making tracking a challenge.

A helicopter was brought in to assist with the search but the mission had to be abandoned on Friday night when it got dark and the helicopter ran out of fuel.
"But they have gone up again today [on Saturday] and the search is continuing," said Ludick.
When found, the lion would be shot with a tranquillizer dart and transported back to the wildlife park it escaped from.
