Spokesperson, Colonel Pricilla Naidu says according to police information, the parents of Shannon Brown left her and her brother of about three to four years old and went to a shop.
She says while on their way, they noticed that the shack was on fire and ran back.
Naidu says the boy was saved by neighbours and he sustained burn wounds to his feet, but the little girl died in the blaze.
She says it is suspected that a candle may have fallen and caused the fire.
