PORT ELIZABETH - SERVICE DELIVERY PROTESTS BRING NELSON MANDELA BAY TO STANDSTILL

Pockets of protest action across Nelson Mandela Bay on Thursday has had a severe impact on traffic.

Captain Johan Rheeder said there was a heavy police presence, and the only way for residents of Uitenhage and Despatch to get to Port Elizabeth was via the Rocklands road. All other roads to Uitenhage were currently closed.

These situations remained volatile and roads were closed for the safety of motorists.

The protest action started on Tuesday night and since then a ward councillor's office was petrol-bombed and several vehicles stoned and set alight.

Residents are reportedly unhappy about service delivery issues.

Four people were arrested earlier this week but no arrests have been made on Thursday.
