PORT ELIZABETH - 2 SUSPECTS ARRESTED IN HELENVALE AFTER HIJACKING & KIDNAPPING UBER DRIVER

Port Elizabeth police arrested two suspects on charges of hijacking and kidnapping, after an Uber driver was allegedly hijacked and kidnapped early on Sunday morning.

Capt. Sandra Van Rensburg says according to police information, the complainant responded to a call-out to pick up two clients at a gym in Humerail just after 5 am.

She says after he picked them up, the two suspects, aged 23 and 35, requested to be driven to Colchester, and when they arrived, they directed him onto a gravel road and then asked him to stop.

One suspect was armed with a knife and they threatened the driver and robbed him of his personal belongings.

He was then shoved into the boot of his blue Swift Suzuki vehicle, and the suspects headed back towards Port Elizabeth, where they allegedly attempted to sell the vehicle in Gelvandale.

Janse van Rensburg says K9 members received a tip-off of a suspicious vehicle in Fitchard Street, Helenvale, where the suspects were arrested.

She says the vehicle was searched and the Uber driver from Central, aged 23, was found in the boot of the car.

Both suspects are being detained and will appear in the Motherwell magistrates' court this week.

The complainant did not sustain any injuries during the incident.
