PORT ELIZABETH - 15 YEAR SENTENCE FOR MALABAR MAN'S MURDER

A Port Elizabeth man convicted of the murder of Bhaven Moodley of Malabar has been jailed for 15 years.

Police said 27-year-old Riyaad Salegie was sentenced on Friday on charges of murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, housebreaking to commit robbery and the assault of Moodley's mother in their Crammer Street home.

He was arrested by police following a curious twist of events when police, searching for a black Mercedes Benz hijacked in Kwadwesi, happened to find Moodley's stolen black Mercedes Benz at Brookes Hill Pavillion.

When police went to make further enquiries about Moodley's car, they came across his badly beaten mother and found him dead on a bed in the house.

Salegie was subsequently arrested and remained in custody until the case was finalised on Friday.
