A 24-year-old gang member will appear in the Port Elizabeth magistrates’ court today, 26 April 2019, on a double murder charge which allegedly took place in November 2018 in Bethelsdorp.
It is alleged that on 3 November 2018 at about 00:15, Megan Mitchell (21) and Clive September (36) were walking in Almond Street in Jacksonville when two unknown males appeared and started shooting at them. The couple were fatally wounded. Mitchell sustained a gunshot wound to her head and chest while September sustained multiple wounds.
In December 2018, Riyaad Groves (29) was arrested at his house in Jacksonville by the Provincial Organised Crime Investigation Unit (Gang Investigations). He has since appeared in court and remains in custody until his next appearance in May 2019.
The second suspect, 24 years old has evaded an arrest since the murders and on Thursday, 25 April 2019, PE Flying Squad members acted on information received that the suspect is at a house in Brittlewood Street in Jacksonville.
He was arrested, detained and charged for the double murders.
