SOUTH AFRICA - ARE THE POLICE PLANNING ONGOING ON STRIKE?

The South African Policing Union is threatening to go on a national strike on Thursday.

The union has accused the government of taking police for granted and reneging on promised promotions.

Sapu president, Mpho Kwinika alleges it's been a wait of over ten years for some of those promises to be implemented.

"Members are willing to go on strike because of what has been seen to be an unfair treatment of the police force as a whole, the employer is taking advantage of these people....you cannot have people waiting for their matters to be resolved for 15 years when those issues have to be resolved within 60 days", said Kwinika

He says union members plan to demonstrate peacefully to express their frustration.

Meanwhile, Police MinisterBheki Cele together with the National Commissioner General Khehla Sitole will address the media on the strike action.
