PORT ELIZABETH - KENSINGTON WOMAN LIES ABOUT HOUSE ROBBERY & IS ARRESTED

A 21-year old Port Elizabeth woman is spending the weekend behind bars, after she lied about being robbed at her house in Kensington on Wednesday.

Police spokesperson, Col Priscilla Naidu says the woman reported to police that she was followed home by two men, and as she got to her front door, they approached her and told her that they were municipal plumbers and were there to inspect the plumbing.

She says the woman further alleged that when she told them to come back when her parents were there, they threatened her with a knife and took her inside.

A Play Station was stolen.

The woman later reported the incident at the Mount Road police station.

Naidu says she further alleged that the suspects took her in their vehicle to Cash Crusaders in Greenacres to sell the Play Station, and give them the money.

She says CCTV footage at Cash Crusaders and other places in the mall revealed that the woman’s version and that which was on camera was contradictory.

The woman was arrested on Saturday, and will appear in the Port Elizabeth magistrates’ court on Monday on charges of contravening Section 9 of the Justice of the Peace and Commissioner of Oaths Act, as well as theft.
