PORT ELIZABETH - HUMEWOOD POLICE NAB CENTRAL BURGLARY SUSPECT WITHIN HOURS OF ROBBERY



A 33-year-old house robbery suspect was arrested within hours after allegedly breaking into a house in central Port Elizabeth and robbing the complainant of his cell phone.

It is alleged that on Monday, 24 April 2017 at about 05:00, two unknown men forced opened the security gate and entered a house in Central. The owner awoke suddenly and surprised the suspects. The armed suspects grabbed the complainant’s cell phone and ran off.

While conducting investigation in the vicinity, the investigating officer D/W/O John Leppan of SAPS Humewood noticed three males walking into a lodge in Western Road Central. One of them fitted the description of one of the suspect’s. The men were questioned and searched. The complainant’s cell phone was found in the pocket of one of them. Suspect was arrested and detained for house robbery. The suspect is currently out on bail for a business robbery which took place in December 2013.  He will appear in court on Wednesday, 26 April 2017.

The Station Commander of SAPS Humewood, Brig Leonie Bentley has applauded the good investigative work by the member which resulted in the immediate arrest of the suspect.
