Shale gas - identified as a socio-economic game changer in South Africa - is found in some parts of the Eastern Cape. Large parts of the Karoo and around the Graaff Reinet area are said to be covering shale gas reserves. But the idea of fracking for shale gas exploration and harvesting is dividing these communities.
