Through high density operations that were conducted over the past weekend a total of 221 suspects have been arrested on various charges in the Uitenhage Cluster. These arrests included seven for robbery, assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm, two for house breaking and theft and the possession of suspected stolen goods. 20 persons were arrested for driving under the influence of liquor.
A total of 41 traffic fines were issued, valued at more than R20 500. The suspects were also arrested on charges relating to theft, reckless and negligent driving and 31 suspects were detained for the illegal possession of drugs. Liquor premises in the Cluster were visited and four received fines for not complying with the liquor act. (Selling liquor not within the prescribed hours).
The South African Police Service appeal to the community to work with the SAPS in reducing crime by providing valuable information that will lead to the arrest of suspects, the tracing of illegal firearms and the recovery of stolen property.
