The charred remains of an unidentified person were found in a burnt out car parked along Addo Road in the Swartkops area on Tuesday morning.
The car was parked on the side of the road about 1km from PPC cement company.
Police spokesman Constable Mncedi Mbombo said a case of murder had been opened.
“It is alleged that the vehicle was found early in the morning with the human body inside. At this stage police have not identified whether this is a male or female,” he said.
Asked if the vehicle was reported stolen, Mbombo said that it was not yet known as forensic experts were still compiling their reports.
“The motive is unknown and anyone with information that can help police to arrest the suspects can contact the nearest police station.” He said.
