UITENHAGE - POLICE MAKE AN OVERWHELMING 171 ARRESTS OVER THE PAST WEEKEND

Police officials in the Uitenhage Cluster have arrested more than 171 suspects, through high density operations that were conducted over the past weekend until this morning.  (Friday, 16 September 2016 to Monday, 19 September 2016).

The suspects were arrested on charges relating to robbery, attempted murder, housebreaking and theft, assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm, theft, possession of suspected stolen goods, etc.

- Eleven (11) arrests were made for driving under the influence of liquor.

- A total of 38 traffic fines were issued, valued at more than R 19 000-00.

- 31 Persons were arrested and detained after illegal drugs were found in their possession.

- A total of 60 fines were issued for other liquor related crimes.

Police in the Uitenhage Cluster will continue to combat crime effectively in the Uitenhage Cluster.

The South African Police Service appeal to the community to work with the SAPS in reducing crime by providing valuable information that will lead to the arrest of suspects, the tracing of illegal firearms and the recovery of stolen property.
