PORT ELIZABETH - SUSPECTS OPEN FIRE ON POLICE AFTER HIGH SPEED CHASE IN NEW BRIGHTON


On Thursday, 29 September 2016, members of the Port Elizabeth Flying Squad spotted a gold Polo Vivo with false registration plates shooting randomly and spinning their car at a memorial service of a well known criminal in New Brighton.

Members attempted to stop the vehicle. The suspects fled and shot several times at the police vehicle. Members gave chase and the suspects drove into a parking area where a service was being held. SAPS members were blocked by seven taxis and was outnumbered by the occupants.

Members called for backup and the suspects abandoned the vehicle inside the parking area and started shooting at the Police again. Various Units and Stations arrived as backup to assist the members and the suspects fled the scene. The Polo Vivo was seized.

A case of attempted murder and pointing of firearm has been registered. Police are investigating the matter.
