Through high density operations that were conducted over the past weekend to effectively address crime in the Uitenhage Cluster, a total of 270 suspects have been arrested on various charges.
These arrests included 28 for driving under the influence of liquor, one (1) for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, rape, housebreaking and theft and assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm.
A total of 68 traffic fines were issued, valued at more than R34 000.
The suspects were arrested on charges relating to theft, possession of suspected stolen goods, 34 suspects were detained for the illegal possession of drugs.
A total of 71 fines were issued for other liquor related crimes.
A liquor premises in Despatch received a fine for not complying with the liquor act. (Selling liquor not within the prescribed hours).
Police in the Uitenhage Cluster will continue to combat crime effectively in the Uitenhage Cluster. The South African Police Service appeal to the community to work with the SAPS in reducing crime by providing valuable information that will lead to the arrest of suspects, the tracing of illegal firearms and the recovery of stolen property.
