On 12 July 2013 two men were shot in an open field in Bethelsdorp. Three accused sprang from a minibus and started shooting at and killed two people, one, Ivan MacDonald died on the scene while the other, Randy Nel, died a few days later in hospital.
A few minutes after the incident, two suspects were arrested by police in another park in Bethelsdorp. When police chased after them, they fired at them. Accused Vuyani Kondile has since died while Preston Baadtjies (28) of the Dustlifes was convicted today, 5 August 2016 on 2 charges of murder, unlawful possession of firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition. Sentencing will be delivered on Monday, 8 August 2016.
