The Eastern Cape government has set up a task team to investigate and resolve the grievances of taxi operators following last week's strike.
South Africa National Taxi Council (Santaco) affiliated taxi drivers blocked major roads and caused traffic to come to a standstill across the province.
Drivers have been voicing their dissatisfaction with operating permits.
At least 18 people have been arrested on charges of arson, public violence and malicious damage to property.
The province's premier met with Santaco leadership last night in a bid to resolve the dispute.
The Eastern Cape premier's spokesperson Sizwe Kupelo said, “The meeting agreed to setup a team to be composed of officials from provincial treasury, the office of the premier and two representatives from the taxi industry.”
