PORT ELIZABETH - SUSPECT ARRESTED FOR MURDER OF ALLEGED GANG LEADER DONOVAN 'STAAL' BERRY

The PE gang task team has arrested a suspect for the murder of reputed gang leader Donovan "Staal" Berry who died in a hail of bullets earlier in May.

Police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, said the 27-year-old suspect was one of two people arrested on Friday for gang-related incidents.

Berry was shot multiple times by several gunmen in Barberry Street in Bethelsdorp Extension 31 on 3 May.Police found around 30 shell casings at the scene.

Meanwhile, Janse Van Rensburg, said a 26-year-old suspect was arrested for the murder of Loyiso Mjiyako (33) on 9 February 2016 in Old Uitenhage Road, Kleinskool and for the attempted murder of two other people who were wounded in the attack on Mjiyako.

Both the suspects will appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrates' Court on Monday.

Janse Van Rensburg said since the launch of Operation Lockdown, the communities have volunteered vital information to the police and many arrests have been effected as a result of the positive information provided.
