WALMER - ELDERLY WOMAN ATTACKED AND ROBBED IN HER TOWNHOUSE

A PORT Elizabeth grandmother was attacked and robbed inside her Walmer Heights townhouse early yesterday morning in the latest attack in the suburb.

Cynthia Nel, 72, was attacked in the Finlandia Lifestyle Estate, behind Builders Warehouse in Buffelsfontein Road, at 2.30am.

Last month, a string of break-ins occurred in the complex and around Walmer Heights.

Atlas Security operations manager Monty Montgomery said the robber used a screwdriver or knife to force open an aluminium window in the lounge and removed the burglar bars.

“The woman woke when the man opened her bedroom door. In a daze, she managed to press her panic button,” he said.

“The man pushed her around a bit before fleeing. The woman sustained minor injuries but was in severe shock.”

Yesterday afternoon Nel’s son, Andre, 44, said: “He [the robber] pushed her to the ground and basically ran over her.

“She appears to have injured and bruised her back.

“The only thing we can see missing is her cellphone.”

Police spokesman Captain Johan Rheeder said a case of house robbery was being investigated.
