The first phase of the four million rand Nelson Mandela Bay metro police force roll-out programme has been postponed to mid May
This, after Executive Mayor, Danny Jordaan announced earlier in March that the Metro would have it's first police force on the 30th of this month.
Acting Municipal Manager, Johan Mettler, says the two-week delay is due to practical issues, and anticipated lengthy consultations regarding the programme.
"It was always anticipated that the roll-out of the Metro Police would also have to take into account a number of practical issues. We have kept our eyes on the ball"
Mettler says they are still busy with consultations and the date was therefore moved to the 15th of May.
