PORT ELIZABETH - DA CLAIMS RESPONSIBILITY FOR BILLBOARD AND DANNY JORDAAN ORDERS IT REMOVED

The billboard, which read “Danny Jordaan, proudly brought to by Jacob Zuma”, was taken down by the municipality this morning after it was put up yesterday.

The municipality claims it removed the billboard because it infringed on by-laws.

The DA’s Andrew Whitfield explains why the party did not immediately claim responsibility for putting up the billboard.

“The billboard went up yesterday afternoon, and the DA announced it this morning, so I don’t think there was a significant delay in announcing the billboard.”

But mayoral spokesperson Mlungisi Ncame says the DA’s confirmation comes a little too late.

“Since no one could claim responsibility they knew about the billboard and which processes they followed, we decided to remove it.”

The opposition party claims Jordaan instructed officials to remove the billboard especially because Port Elizabeth hosts the ANC’s local government election manifesto launch this weekend.
