UITENHAGE - UTH CLUSTER ARRESTED 174 SUSPECTS OVER THE PAST WEEKEND

Police officials in the Uitenhage Cluster have arrested a total of 174 suspects during crime prevention operations that were conducted over the past weekend.

The operations were conducted from Friday, 11 March 2016 until 06:00, Monday, 14 March 2016.  A total of 53 traffic fines were issued, valued at R26 500.  The arrests made varied from housebreaking and theft, assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm, possession of suspected stolen goods, robbery common, etc.  A total of 17 arrests were made for driving under the influence of liquor.  A total of 45 fines were issued for other liquor related crimes.  A total of 41 Persons were arrested and detained after illegal drugs were found in their possession.

Police in the Uitenhage Cluster will continue with their efforts to combat crime effectively in the Uitenhage Cluster.  The South African Police Service appeal to the community to work with the SAPS in reducing crime by providing valuable information that will lead to the arrest of suspects, the tracing of illegal firearms and the recovery of stolen property.
