A 27-year old man who allegedly stabbed his sick mother to death in a hospital bed, appeared in the East London magistrate’s court on Tuesday on a charge of murder.Police spokesperson Captain Mluleki Mbi said the case against the man was postponed for a formal bail application.
The man was arrested over the weekend after nurses allegedly discovered the woman’s lifeless body.
“It is alleged that on Sunday, 13 March 2016, at about 12pm, the son visited his mother in her hospital ward. The nurses are alleged to have discovered the lifeless body of the woman lying on her bed with stab wounds to the throat and stomach during feeding time,” said Mbi.
Police said that the suspect was later found hiding inside a hospital toilet with a knife in his possession.
The 59-year old woman was receiving treatment for a chronic illness.
The case was postponed until Wednesday.
